Required Commercial Specialist / Administrative Assistant - British Embassy in Kuwait

The British Embassy, Kuwait has the following vacancy for a Commercial Specialist/Administrative Assistant.

The job responsibilities are to assist in the promotion of UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) activities in Kuwait, through effective office management and support for both the Head of UKTI and the Head of UKTI’s Defence and Security Organisation (UKTI DSO). The role includes assisting with the research of commercial opportunities in Kuwait, providing advice, guidance and market introduction services to UK companies, and supporting the logistical arrangements for UK trade missions and VIP visits to Kuwait. 

Normal working hours are 07.30 – 14.30 Sunday to Thursday.

The job will be graded as a ‘Specialist’ with a monthly salary of KD 445.  The successful candidate will be expected to start work 03 June 2012.

•    Office Manager and Personal Assistant to the Head UKTI and the Head UKTI DSO;
•    Assisting in the co-ordination of trade missions, VIP and other commercial visits to Kuwait;
•    Providing assistance to UK companies in the defence and security sectors;
•    Conducting market research in Kuwait on behalf of UK companies;
•    Events management in Kuwait on behalf of UK companies;
•    Some occasional representational duties and overseas visits business development visits

Skills and Experience Required
•    Good knowledge of local business customs, practices, procedures and etiquette, as well as commercial regulations and restrictions. 
•    Understanding of basic economics and terminology used in the defence and commercial world
•    Knowledge of the UK and Kuwait Defence and Security Industries
•    Strong correspondence and communication skills: business writing, emails, faxes and producing written reports. 
•    Research skills: ability to research enquiries through various means – internet, contacts, media, articles, trade publications, directories, databases etc. 
•    Excellent IT skills; good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages (notably Microsoft Word, Outlook and straightforward databases in Excel).
•    Fluent spoken and written English. Arabic is desirable but not essential.
