Required System Engineer / System Administrator for Wataniya Telecom - Qtel Group in KUWAIT

Bachelor degree in Engineering or Computer Science or related discipline and appropriate registration with a recognised professional institute

Experience:
    2 - 4 years experience in various enterprise storage technologies
    Ability to maintain mission critical and high availability systems
    Knowledge of system and enterprise backup
    Good knowledge of MS Office applications like Excel, Word etc.
    Good command of both written and verbal English, Arabic would be an advantage

Key Activities
    Maintain UNIX servers and enterprise storages.
    Manage the operations of UNIX servers and database Infrastructure for all platforms including Billing, CRM, Data Warehouse, OFA, Mediation Data Capture, RA & New Nokia servers etc.
    Manage the design growth of UNIX and database requirements for the company based on the new and growing business needs.
    Review performance of various UNIX platforms by monitoring and tuning using latest tools and methodologies.
    Proactively monitoring platform quality and performance on routine basis as per directives from Supervisor. Document the reports and findings, escalate the issue for resolution.
    Develop FTP Batch file and scheduling of batch files for automatic transfer of statistics / raw data from different sections.
    Perform tests before and after any changes made in the servers and storages to verify that the objectives of planned changes have been achieved.
    Testing of servers and storages performance data integrity against any software upgrade/ loading of patches/ Hardware change or upgrade/ new network elements added or removed from the network/ new features activated related to the area responsible for.
    Meet quality and performance KPI with supporting documents.
    Provide active support to other Wataniya Telecom departments.
    Ensure that upper management is informed on all critical issues pertaining to the area responsible for.
    Provides reports, make standard reports and tailor make them where necessary.
    Provide and manage support on special project as and when assigned by seniors and superiors.
    Maximize the availability of various mission critical and business critical systems by proactive diagnosis, planning and maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime.
    Provide job related technical assistance within Billing and other departments within stipulated time.
    Ensure High availability of all Production Servers.
    Corrective maintenance of H/W and intermittent problems providing 24/7 support.
    Timely advice for hardware/software upgrades based on current and future requirements.
    Responsible for the overall security of covered servers and storages.
    Track contract renewals for covered hardware.
    Check scheduled backup status and take remedial actions.
    Manage backup policies related to UNIX /Database/Billing and Business related.
    Send weekly tape movement request for policies close to 50 and media close to 2000.
    Attend to all restoration requests which include normal, disaster recovery and service down scenarios.
    Manage preventive maintenance scheduling with the vendor for periodic checkups and preventive actions.
    Manage and schedule business downtimes for hardware and software upgrades.
    Administer the enterprise backup solution.
    Develop macros through Excel and Visual Basic to reduce manual intervention and automate the performance reports.
