The Academic Advisor’s role is to provide students with professional academic advising and educational planning guidance to the undergraduate student body.
Responsibilities:
o Provide academic advise and guidance in course selection related to a student’s general education, major and minor requirements.
o Assist in the guidance process of major and minor selection
o Liaison with the Registration Office on student transcripts, academic updates as per assigned by the Lead Academic Advisor
o Support the development of major checklists and general education checklists and requirements with related departments on campus
o Support in the development of relevant publications related to student academic development. These are, but not limited to: Academic Advising Handbook, Academic Advising Logistics Manual, Faculty Academic Advising Handbook and other related publications.
o Support the Lead Academic Advisor to provide professional development to faculty academic advisors in respected departments on academic advising policies, procedures, systems and related developmental academic advsing areas.
o Liason with related academic departments as per assigned by the Lead Academic Advisor
o Support the peer academic advising program. Serve as mentors to the recruited peer academic advisors as per assigned by the Lead Academic Advisor.
o To develop and update accordingly confidential academic advising student files both soft and hard copy
o Support in the coordination and delivery of academic advising during the placement and registration orientation of new students each semester
o Promote the importance of academic advising at GUST
o Resolves academic problems and inquires related to a student’s educational plan
o Support in other related Student Success Center requirements and developments
o Serve on university committees for student enhancment and developemnt appointed by the Lead Academic Advisor and the Director of The Student Success Center.
o Promote a learning and development culture within the scope of responsibilities and guide the undergraduate students toward a scheduled graduation in accordance with their educaitonal plans and requirements
o Report daily on development of the Academic Advising area by communicating to the Lead Academic Advisor on the enhancments and concerns
o Report periodically as set by The Lead Academic Advisor on the status and progress of the plans, activities, challenges and accomplishments
