The Nursing Supervisor manages, supervises, coordinates and participates in all activities and specialized nursing functions in a professional manner within the nursing department; interprets policies/procedures, standards and regulations as appropriate to ensure high standards of client care and safety.. Demonstrate administrative, educative, communicative and evaluative functions.
Education : Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Nursing. Current CPR/BLS certification.1st line management certificate/diploma is an advantage
Experience : 10 years' experience in a clinical setting of which 3 years of recent experience in a supervisory post. Service in NMH for more than 5 years is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Duties
Oversees and evaluates nursing care essential to the assessment, restoration, promotion and maintenance of patient's health and wellness through a system of critical pathways to achieve the objective of “best practice”.
Participates in preparing work schedules, assigns personnel, adjusts staffing to provide appropriate coverage and meet the needs of the client in conjunction with the program Heads. Evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
Implements the identified nursing objectives and evaluates the expected outcome with support documentation.
Inspects patient care areas daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, infection control and risk management standards, and takes corrective action or makes recommendation where violations occur in order to remedy the situation (supports the latter with prescribed documentation).
Ensures accurate patient recordkeeping, maintains confidentiality and implementation of scientific nursing process.
Supervisory Role
Consults with the Nursing Director concerning clinical, administrative and professional issues and assumes operational responsibility for department in absence of Nursing Director including decision-making and strategic planning.
Implements and coordinates Hospital policy regarding quality improvement program.
Maintains awareness of ongoing quality assurance studies within the unit and assists with the implementation of corrective actions determined as necessary.
Attends quality improvement committee meetings and implements action plans discussed at the meetings.
Reports Quality Improvement Program defaults and deviations to Nursing Director in a timely manner.
Evaluates the Quality Improvement Program according to criteria provided by an accredited programme.
Attends Infection control issues, referring to quality improvement.
Consults with nursing administration office concerning management of assigned areas and all related matters.
Supervises procedures concerning narcotics according to governmental and Hospital procedures.
Reviews nursing personnel assignment to patients based on acuity, skill and availability in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, and maintains a multidisciplinary approach to care (supports with documentation)
Oversees maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with Hospital standards.
Supervises implementation of infection control policies and procedures.
Reviews documentation and record-keeping of patient care and ensures remedial action.
General Duties
Provides support to patients and families in times of stress or crisis.
Assists in the training, orientation and annual performance evaluation of department personnel. Monitors focused customer care and protocols.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required and participates on nursing committees as directed.
Assists in the coordination of inter-hospital transfers and documentation thereof.
Performs other related duties as requested.
