Assistant Resident Engineer - URS Corporation

supervising and co-ordinating the activities of Site staff for whom responsible and keeping them informed on matters which may influence their work.
• supervising the construction of the Permanent Works to ensure that they are executed to the correct line and level, and that the Materials, Plant and workmanship comply with the
Specifications and other requirements of the Contract;
checking the setting out of all parts of the Permanent Works, before construction, and the line and level, after construction;
monitoring progress against the Contractor’s programme (including the resources required) and advising the URS Project Manager of potential delays;
• ensuring prompt responses when the Contractor has called for inspections and/or approvals;
• inspecting all drawings issued to the Contractor and advising the Project Manager of any errors or inconsistencies discovered;
• drafting, checking and/or signing correspondence in accordance with the requirements of correspondence management system;
• keeping and assisting in the keeping of full and separate records of all actual and potential claims situations and ensuring that the Project Manager and the Quantity Surveyor are fully informed;
• maintaining awareness of any potential Employer’s Claims under the provisions of Sub-
Clause 2.5 of the Conditions of Contract and advising on/issuing notices when appropriate;
• supervising additional Site investigations, if required;
• checking that the requirements of the Contract in respect of traffic management, health and safety, the environment and social responsibility are adhered to;
• checking the adequacy of the Contractor’s Temporary Works and the safety of the Contractor’s working methods;
• observing the performance of the finished works including recording movements and settlements;
• keeping a daily diary to record important events at the Site including progress, weather conditions, accidents and communications with the Contractor and assisting the Project Manager to maintain full and complete Site records;
• recording any accidents on the Site and any events which could have resulted in accidents;
• reviewing and signing, “for record purposes only”, or rejecting, the Contractor’s day work returns;
• maintaining a record, on purpose-made drawings, of the actual levels and nature of foundations, the strata encountered during excavation and full details of any deviations from the working drawings;
• assisting in the preparation of as-built drawings (or checking those prepared by the Contractor, according to contractual requirements);
• checking that all equipment under the control of site staff, including survey equipment, is in good adjustment;
• attending Site meetings when required to do so;
• preparing, in agreed formats, contributions to progress and other reports; and ensuring that the Contractor is properly, and at suitable intervals, testing and recalibrating equipment under his control in order to comply with the contract requirements.
