1. Master's degree in Library Science OR the equivalent. Doctoral degree preferred.
2. Demonstrated successful experience as a librarian in reference work, cataloging, collection development and a wide range of professional services.
3. Familiarity with Library systems such as Millennium or Koha.
4. Demonstrated success in working in a diverse academic environment.
5. Demonstrated experience as a librarian, at the higher educational level.
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Demonstrated knowledge of teaching-learning processes, online and database searching and other computerized library applications.
8. Demonstrated experience in technical services areas, including cataloging and classification using OCLC/DDC.
9. Demonstrated ability to use innovative and creative techniques and equipment.
10. Demonstrated leadership ability and desire to stay current in the field.
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform a wide variety of professional library services, to supervise other Library staff, and to guide student, faculty and staff in the use of the library and its resources and services, under the general supervision and direction of the Chief Learning Officer.
Duties and responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:
1. Provide reference and information services to students, staff and other library users.
2. Recommend books, periodicals, audiovisual software, computer software, and other library materials for purchase.
3. Prepare bibliographies and advise library users of appropriate materials.
4. Prepare other types of library resource guides for faculty and student use.
5. Ensure adequate staffing for the Library; develop and revise schedules and arrange for substitutes, as needed
6. Supervise the organization and management of various library service areas.
7. Participate in the evaluation of library service areas and functions make recommendations for improved policies, procedures, and services.
8. Give presentations on library use, provide orientation tours to students, and provide library related workshops.
9. Oversee and train library staff.
10. Resolve issues and complaints related to Library services.
11. Plan, coordinate, promote and oversee Library events and functions.
12. Keep current with new developments and knowledge in appropriate fields of competency.
13. Maintain control of and order equipment, materials, and supplies as assigned
14. Be familiar with and act in accordance with the Policies and Procedures of AUM.
