IT Support Officer Specialist Grade - Level 13 - British Embassy

The British Embassy in Kuwait has a vacancy for an IT Support and Corporate Services Specialist from December 2013.

The job will be graded as ‘’Specialist – Level 13’’ with a monthly salary of KD 451.000.  The successful candidate will be expected to start work beginning of December 2013.

Normal working hours are 07.30 – 15.30 Sunday to Wednesday and 07.30 – 13.30 on Thursday.

NB. Before proceeding further please note the following. The sensitive nature of the work and the need for candidates to obtain security clearance in the UK means there are restrictions on those whom we can consider for these positions. The successful candidate will
•    Proactively maintain and support the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) specific IT system F3G (Firecrest 3rd Generation) desktop and infrastructure on the Universal Tier. 
•    Provide a focal point for users on IT related queries. 
•    Help ensure maximum availability of the F3G system and service by closely monitoring performance and resolving IT problems in conjunction with support from the UK Help Desk and other IT stakeholders. 
•    Help ensure the security of the system and ensure that potential breaches of security are reported and investigated.
•    Contribute to a well-managed Embassy by ensuring IT services are fully operational for approximately 70 employees working on sensitive material in a secure IT environment.  
•    Work independently to run the entire Embassy IT system, linking into UK best practice and implementing it at Post.

More specifically you will your responsibilities will be:
Systems Administration (Unclassified/Protect/Restricted Tier) and Echo telephone network:
-    Ensure maximum availability of the Firecrest system and service by closely monitoring performance and resolving IT problems in conjunction with support from IT helpdesk, Technical Management Officer, Regional Support Centre, IT Support Advisers 
-    Pro-actively maintain and support the Firecrest desktop / laptops / standalone computers and infrastructure at Post
-    Help ensure the security of the system and ensure that potential breaches of security are reported and investigated
-    Be responsible for maintaining time recording for all IT related activities for central review purposes

Skills Required
A minimum of 3 years IT Support/Systems.  Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
Previous experience of working within an office environment, excellent knowledge of IT systems administration and the FCO IT platform.  Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes and Oracle - and able to adapt quickly to other systems (eg, Vista) and advanced knowledge of IT networking and systems administration in general, as well as knowledge of global FCO networks are also essential.  

Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and excellent IT support/ troubleshooting and systems administration skills.

Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided for the successful candidate.  This may include training in London and the region.
